It's Enough, But Less Than I Imagined

Choose and Defend Wednesday has rolled around once again! I'm always happy about that :-) Let's celebrate, shall we? Even if you are not here in the U.S., feel free to celebrate with us. Saturday is Independence Day...our 233rd. For me it is one of those holidays I'm never quite sure what to do with. Something is expected of me, but I always struggle a bit with just what it is. You are supposed to maybe have a cook-out or a picnic...maybe at the park or the beach. Then, as it grows dark, you better have access to some sort of explosive. This is where my question for you comes in. Your Choose and Defend. How do your prefer to enjoy your fireworks?

At a Show

OR

At Home

Maybe you combine the two. Maybe you boycott the whole shebang. But if you HAD to Choose...and you know you do...which would you Choose? Now, be sure to Defend your choice. Make us feel the power of your convictions. You can do this. Go team! Choose and Defend!

I went to watch the fireworks last year and it was really fun. I never really want to leave my house, until I make myself. Then I usually have a good time. So, I'll say show.

I prefer to go to shows rather than spend my hard-earned cash only to watch it go up in smoke for a few oohs and ahs. I'm going to a show.

We have a wonderful show put on by our fire department that is spectacular as well as safe right over the Columbia River. I would not miss it for the world.

The whole town turns out as well as a bazillion tourists, but it is one time everyone seem to get along and join together. Nice feeling.

I'll never forget the shows I saw at Fox Lake just north of Chicago, wouldn't trade it for the world. So I am going to go with the show!

For the Fourth of July, we usually cook prodigious amounts of beef and or pork products on the grill and then, when it starts to get dark, we light up fireworks.
We love the high flying mortars the best. WOOT!

Churlita: You are good at finding fun things to do! One for Shows

Pamela: Two for Shows :-)

AlienCG: I feel that way about so many of my purchases...my hard earned cash going up in smoke. Figuratively of course. Three for Shows.

Ananda: That sounds wonderful. It is nice having something you can count on like that. Four for Shows!

Crazy4Coens: We are working our way towards quite a landslide here. You make Five for Shows.

Sebastien: That sounds great, too.
Nothing like fireworks and water combined, it seems. Six for Shows!

Cube: Oh, I'm so glad you came by, because someone besides me should like hanging out and setting off your own! One for Home :-)

Everyone: It is now 6-2(with me) for Shows over Home. But guess what? It isn't too late to weigh in here. Choose and Defend!

Good question, my brother and mom were also talking about this. When I was a kid I loved the excitement of going to a park to watch the fireworks. Now as an adult, trying to find a parking spot and watching explosives with a ton of strangers doesn't seem as exciting anymore. I now prefer to watch them from my balcony. The view isn't the best, but no crowds.

There has never been a better time to set off your own fireworks. I remember when our displays were little piddling things (yet we loved them at the time), but nowadays the mortars you can buy at Sam's Club are awesome, beautiful things that look totally professional.

For some reason, our neighborhood always gets into dueling fireworks displays and we have a rocking time.

Tara: I am so jealous that you can just watch fireworks from your balcony. That seems perfect to me. You make Seven for Shows!

Cube: Sam's Club! Yes, I am going there after work...yeah. Setting off your own fireworks is actually illegal in my city, but if we drive a few blocks we are in a city where it is legal. Many a fine firework has been set off in a parking lot in Azusa.
