If I Didn't Laugh, I'd Have to Cry

Oh goodness.  What a day.   Nothing awful, just seems to be shaping up into one of THOSE days.  It is my late day, so I had gotten the kids to school, did my voting, finished laundry, and was planning to spend some time just relaxing.  You know how I loves me some relaxing.  Anyway, I get a call from my auto insurance company wanting Social Animal's contact information.  Apparently, he rear ended someone sometime yesterday...and he neglected to tell me.  He is an adult, yes, but he is on MY insurance.  I gave the nice lady his number and then called him myself.  He was very - oh, yeah, it was nothing, I barely tapped them...something, something...  Whatever.  I just told him he should have mentioned it to me and he should have called the insurance company himself right when it happened.  *sigh*  So there was that.  Then I start getting texts from Handsome Lad telling me that if he doesn't pay for a textbook, he won't be able to go on a field trip tomorrow, report card witheld, all that.  Okay, I know that is the policy, but since I hadn't yet gotten a notice or bill, I was rather surprised he was being dealt with like that.  I called the school librarian and asked her how much I owed...$57.50.  I wasn't shocked, I know as well as anyone that text books are expensive.  I did say, though, that I had reported this book lost (when his backpack was stolen from my car) at the beginning of the year and hadn't been billed, that I still hadn't received notice and yet he was threatened to be disqualified for a field trip happening in less that 24 hours.  I felt kind of bad for getting upset.  I know how busy the school librarians are at this time of year.  However, the fact is that if I hadn't called her, Handsome Lad would have been punished for something that really isn't his fault.  Anyway, she agreed to clear him for the trip and I agreed that now I actually knew what my bill was I would pay it.  Humph.

So, that was a long story about a couple of pretty minor things that just sort of harshed my mellow, you know?  haha!  Let me lighten things up for Talk Talk Tuesday.  I wanted to try and choose my favorite Saturday Night Live catch phrase, but that is a pretty impossible task!  Given my mood, I decided to go with this one...
Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball.
(SNL - Feb. 1991)

"I'm Gumby, dammit!" One of my faves.

And I still frequently say, "What? Oh. That's very different. Never mind." I loved Gilda Radnor.

And of course, "Jane, you ignorant slut."

Hmm. my SNL references are much older than yours.

Holy moly! The school and their protocols are driving me bats too!
Just a minor correction... it is the teacher not the school librarian who handles text books. ;-)

I too had a very frustrating day at work. I thought that was supposed to happen on Mondays! I feel cheated. But be of good cheer... tomorrow is hump day... yay!

When I was in junior high, all we did was speak in SNL quotes. I notice when they make show or movies from the 70's that people don't do that, but everyone I knew did back then.

" It'll behoove ya', to care for your uvula!"

Secret: haha! Those are good :-) And don't worry, I am all too familiar with Season One SNL. *sigh* Them was the days.

Ananda: I'm sure with four kids you've run the rounds and seen it from the school's end too!

I suspect that who handles the text books must vary, because in our district the text books are indeed handled by the librarians.

Happy Hump Day!

Mrs: Oh, I loved Church Lady...Well, isnt' that special. Could it be...SATAN?!?!?

Churlita: SNL started when I was in 8th grade and through most of high school I was on the phone watching it with one or the other of my friends. Um, that might be sad. But you're right. The phenomenon is not noted in movies!
hee hee! I love that one....

Sometimes the little annoyances can feel gigantic. I'm glad you were able to straighten things out with the school, but you're right, they were pretty harsh on him and they should've asked you way in advance about the book situation.

I love that "Happy Fun Ball" skit! Let's see....skits and lines from SNL:

I love the character, Linda Richman of "Coffee Talk":

"I'm getting phaklempt! Tawk amongst yaselves. I'll give you a topic. The Civil War was neither civil nor a war. Discuss."

Then there's the skit with Phil Hartman as Charleton Heston from "Soylent Green":

"It's peeeople!!!!" (and then there was a sequel (at least on SNL)

"It's still made out of peeeople! They didn't change the recipe like they were supposed to!"

Tara: That is exactly it...small things that just made me grrrr.

haha! I love those ones! Good choices. I always loved that idea of setting up a topic and asking people to discuss it among themselves a la Linda Richman :-)
