Friday 5 - Wrapping

Time keeps on slippin', slippin' slippin'...and here we are again at Friday!  I am happy and excited to report that today I used my lunchtime to get Princess Diva home from the hospital!  Yay!  Everyone is so thrilled and relieved that no matter what other nonsense is going on it is bound to be a happy Christmas.

So how's about a little Friday 5 to head into the weekend?  I say, sure, why not?

  1. How seriously do you take gift-wrapping when you give gifts?  I wouldn't say that I take gift-wrapping seriously.  I do try to choose cute paper and I want my gifts to be presentable...but this particular task is not one I am willing to become stressed over.   And gift BAGS are awesome.
  2. Do you save gift-wrapping to re-use later?  Gift wrap, usually not.  Gift bags, though, are another story.  They are hard to ruin, really...so why not use them again?
  3. How picky are you when it comes to selecting wrapping paper?  Not that.  I mean, I go where I am going to get the paper and pick out what I like best from the selection.  If they don't have the "perfect" paper, do I go somewhere else?  No.
  4. How much attention do you pay to the way gifts you receive are wrapped?  Not much, for the most part.  I mean, sometimes you get something so beautifully wrapped you hate to open it and you must comment on it's beauty...and I can appreciate that.  But I'm usually also sort of eager to get to what is inside.  I don't judge people based on their wrapping skills or choice of wrap.  I'm okay with the funny papers :-)
  5. Among people you know, who is the most talented at wrapping gifts? I don't really have any super fancy wrapping friends.  However, both DR and Milly are very tidy and precise when they wrap.  I admire their care and patience.
I hope to hear some comments on this...I am truly curious as to how important other people consider gift presentation.  Thanks for participating, and have a pretty weekend with a huge bow on top!

First off... Yay! Yay! Yay! that Princess Diva is home again. I cannot think of any news that I have taken more joy in hearing of late. Glad I am for all of you!

Now I'm off for serious consideration of your questions. Be back in a flash.

1. I am a big fan of bags myself. My elf, Bear, and I make it into a private girl-fest. We start out producing careful and well wrapped packages, but by the end we are down to using cereal boxes, the funny papers and aluminum foil. Did you know that duct tape can be cut into fun shapes to hide the fact that you didn't buy enough regular tape? Ha!
2. I don't usually save wrap unless I really like it. One of Santa's elves gets to burn it as we go in the wood stove and my four fire bugs love that job.
3.I am not fussy about wrap... what's on sale is good. I get adult wrap and kiddie wraps. One year we did a particular wrap for each kid, so that no one knew which package was for who. We use letters, numbers, symbols... no names. The kids have fun trying to figure out what the code is each year.
4. I try to comment on the effort that a wrapper has put into their gifts. Especially kids who use half a roll of tape. Ha. They really wanted to do a good job.
5. My sister Cinderella is an absolute wrapping artist! She makes her own papers, tags and adds on fun tie-ons that she makes herself. She is a gifted person! Ha... pun intended.

lauara - ditto to your first 4 answers - as for the best wrapper - i don't know - i used to handmake wedding presents and then take them to the department strore for wrapping (but the store has gone out of business now) - so i guess i'd say the defunct store is the best wrapper i know. weird - i think it's cuz most of the wrapped presents i've seen in recent life were wrapped by me. hummm.

My answers would be very similar to yours. I'm a bit of a messy wrapper. I tend to think what's inside is more important.

Ananda: Yes, that was a great gift in itself, having Princess Diva come home :-)
And thanks for your answers! I am love the code thing for the gifts...I may have to give that a go next year.
I also think it is cool that you have someone really arty with the wrapping.

Crazy4Coens: Yeah, the sorts of places I usually shop don't offer wrapping, but I remember having that done a time or two in the past. Beats anything I can manage! You are very artistic, so I'm sure you presents look beautiful :-)

FW: Yes! Pretty wrapping is nice, but let me at the STUFF!

So good to hear this about Diva!!!

As for wrapping, I usually save gift bags and stuff, but if those aren't around I am happy to use a trash bag. I just tell people I live in a trash can and they give me some slack for my gift in a trash bag thing. They're just happy so long as my gift isn't a half-eaten apple or splintered piece of wood.

So happy to hear about Princess Diva.

I had a friend who wrapped someone's wedding gift with newspaper and duct tape and it cracked me up. Which means I guess I don't really care about gift wrapping. Like you, I appreciate a good job, but it's not something I think about too much.

Sebastien: Thanks, Sebastien.

I love the way you set people up to be ecstatic over anything a step above garbage! THAT is the way to give gifts.

Churlita: It has made our holiday, really.

I bet that newspaper and duct tape gift really stood out amongst all the silver and white and frilly bows! Something to be said for being different.
