Tricks & Treats In the Stacks

Yesterday I had my two big Halloween programs at work. They are called Trick or Treat in the Library. I do it every year as an event for 2-6 year olds. The kids dress up and come in for a Halloween storytime. Then we have a little parade through the library, where they receive treats at various stations around the building. It is so much fun. I look forward to it every year, but I'm always really relieved when it is over. It is a pretty simple program, but for some reason, over the years, it has become this thing that seems to be proceeded by a great deal of excited anticipation from the community. Also, I have to limit it to 75 kids in each group, so there is this competivite thing surrounding getting the tickets.

Anyway, yesterday's programs went really well and I think we all had a great time. As always, I did a very simple costume so that the younger kids would recognize me (and as a bonus, of course, it is much less of hassle for me!) I will get to wear my costume again, because I work on Halloween this year. Luckily, I will be off at six. Plenty of time to tag along with the Kick Back Dude family's trick or treating if I want to. Handsome Lad is going with friends and his dad is handling that. Girlie Girl will be out with her friends, although I believe at some point they are coming back to spend the night at our place...I imagine it will be a fairly late night though.

What are your plans for Halloween? Tell me about it!

Um...maybe the reason is because you make it so awesome??

Halloween...I love it and all, but people are sucking away the spirit of it. I will dress up for work tomorrow, and so will another department, but it's like pulling teeth for some participation.

What fun! And a great idea. We had our book carnival today... a way to trick or treat for books that the "we don't get to do holidays" kids can enjoy too.

I plan to spend mine on line with a friendly frog. ;-)

Great costume!
Nothing. Which is fine.

What? No DR time for the holiday?

You are an awesome party planner. I'm glad you have such an impact on the community.

Tara: haha! Well, I'd love to think that, but really parents around here just like to be in on things or something :-)

And I know what you mean about a lack of participation. I LOVE dressing up, but apparently not everyone does....

Ananda: A lot of schools around here let kids dress up as book characters, and they need to have the book too. So we've a had a big run on certain picture books
:-)
Have fun with your nearly Handsome Prince - hee hee!
And yeah! Isn't that an awesome word?

Pamela: Thanks. And I think so too. My evening is still a bit up in the air and I could end up doing nothing, which is, in fact, fine.

Churlita: I am hoping for some more DR time this weekend, but it is kind of up in the air at the moment.
This community is up for the good times :-) I have a great job.

It looks and sounds like a fun time at the library.

I am handing out candy (appeasing the rugrats for another year) and then going to a Halloween party afterwards. It should be fun.

AlienCG: It was lots of fun.
haha! Gots to keep those neighborhood chillens appeased! And a Halloween party sounds great...haven't been to a grown up one in a long time.

I will only consider your event a success if you managed to scar some kids for life by terrifying them with your costume. That is the definition of success (Halloween success), scaring and scarring a little kid for life. Anything less is unacceptable.

Sebastien: I am sorry to have to disappoint you. In fact, it hurts me to tell you this...but no children were scarred or scared in the course of this event. I hang my head in shame.
