Finally! BLACK is the New BLACK!

It is Saturday! Yay! So we get to post our Saturday Scavenger Shots! Yay! I really do look forward to these every week, posting and seeing everyone else's posts. This week's word was chosen by da godfadder of da game Evil-E! The word is...BLACK. I have a lot of BLACK stuff. A lot of my clothes are BLACK. BLACK friends? You betcha!

Um, anyway here are some of the funnest BLACK things hanging 'round my desk... I've got two BLACK robots. One plays gee-tar and one is sparkly. I also have a nice lady monkey with a banana wearing a LBD (for the non-fashion mavens out there, that would be a Little BLACK Dress. Classically elegant.)

And here is something I forgot I stuck up on a cabinet...Can't remember what I did to deserve that note to myself! But it's true enough...

Thank you for stopping my my little BLACK lair. Evil-E will let us all know who he's tagged for next week...and the game goes on :-)

Found Stuff

We always find things in library books. Often just junk, but even the junk can be interesting...old receipts, shopping lists, photos. On the super rare occasion someone will find money, woot! The other day I found this homemade birthday card...or actually part of a card, it appeared to have been torn in half. Complete with a little barcode on the back listing the price as 100.00. Here take a look:

It really tickled me because of the text, which is so typically teenage girl. It says:

Well, I guess Impy said it all... At least this isn't a book right? (about math...) Sorry I only got you this card...I was trying to use the computer but it broke down.. :( I'm gonna go to Hawaii sumtime in August, but w/ my Grandparents...so fun. They have to rest, then eat rice, and when we finally get going, their ankles or another old person part starts hurting. This was such a cheerful B-Day card, rite? Emily 7-:3

I just can't help but like this girl :-) Ever found anything interesting or funny or valuable in some way? Tell me about it!

Brainia Miscellania

Just thought I'd post a few odds and ends today. One of my mental clean-ups, I guess.
- Handsome Lad has said that he definitely wants to live with me. Have my place be home base. He is nervous about talking with this dad about it. I offered to be the one to handle it, but he is resistant even to that. I think he feels guilty, but he is also very unhappy at the house, as there is so much tension there. Somehow, life didn't achieve the standard of perfection WTG imagined with me gone. Well, we'll see where this goes.

- My boss has been on vacation this week and it has been so quiet and peaceful! I actually like my boss quite a bit. She is really a nice person, but she is also rather high strung. When she gets stressed she doesn't take it out on people, but you know how it is...you can't help but be aware of it. Makes me glad the buck doesn't stop with me. I never have to be that stressed about my job. Given my frame of mind, I will probably always be an indian, never a chief.

- I am dipping my toes into the waters of meeting new people, perhaps even dating. Don't make fun of me, but I have just put my profile up on The Onion personals. The service is free, although you can upgrade and get extras of some sort for a fee. I sort of figure people with profiles there might at least be interesting and have a sense of humor. I have no real expectations, but I figured that I might want to start somewhere and see what happens...so, we'll see what happens!

- Oh, and this is completely random, but I know a few of you like food :-) Food! I had the most amazing gyro yesterday evening. My mouth waters just thinking about it...is there anything like tzatziki, tender meat, those little diced tomatoes and oninos, all wrapped up in a warm pita? Yum. Alright, I just had to share that for some reason.

- One more thing! If any of you ever stopped blogging I would be so, so bummed. I'd say devastated, but I don't want to sound like a freak. So, please keep on blogging. Yes, AlienCG, I might especially be talking to you. And anyone else thinking bad thoughts too! Knock that off! Thank you.

It's Like Apples and Oranges

People say that when they mean there is no way to really compare two things. However, we like comparing things here at Choose and Defend Wednesday. So, what say you?

Apples?

Or or or oranges?

Now, after you've made your choice and defended it with vigor, I wouldn't hate you if you also mentioned your actual favorite fruit. But only after you play my little game. Choose and Defend! Rah!

I Did This Once Before...My How Things Have Changed!

In the world of the completely pointless personality quiz, I have to believe that this result trumps the one I got about three years ago.

The Completely Pointless Personality Quiz
The Completely Pointless Personality Quiz

Actually, reading back in my blog, a LOT has changed! More than I'd normally realize. I don't read old posts all that often, as there is so much new stuff outside of my own head to read about. However an occasional stroll down memory lane can be useful. Going back, especially to my earliest posts on this particular blog, makes me appreciate where I am in my life right now. Plus, it gives me a renewed appreciation for the whole blogging thing.

Party People

Like it or not, I must share some photos of Love Bug's little party yesterday. You will feel like you were invited!

Child labor laws are right lax in these here parts.

The birthday girl with all the grandmas...Princess Diva's weird mom, me, my mom, and WTG's mom.

We're not quite ready to ride, but we do like making the wheels go round. Yes, we're easily amused.

It's a cake! It's a baby! It's cake baby!

Cause I Speak of the Pompetus of Love

Some people call me the SPACE cowboy...some call me the gangster of love.... Welcome to Saturday and my Saturday Scavenger Shots post. This week's word is, of course, SPACE and was chosen by the very interesting Dmarks at Throwawayblog. And away we go!

Miss Personality finally feels she has enough SPACE to play when we take her to the park.

Here is Love Bug looking a bit SPACEd out. I think she is eating a fry.

Here is the SPACE heater built into my bathroom wall. I haven't had to use it yet, because I've only lived here during summer so far.

Does this seem like a very good SPACE for a sleeping child to you? It was a bit weird, but I am assuming that maybe the library was the coolest SPACE the girl's grandma could find to give her a rest. The Chinese newspaper blanket was a nice touch...

And finally, please notice my lunar widget in the sidebar. I love being able to keep track of what our moon is up to out there in SPACE. >>>>>>>>>

Don't forget to check with Dmarks and see who he is tagging for next week. Thanks for stopping by my little place in cyberSPACE. You don't take up much SPACE at all!

I Write the Songs

In honor of today's Taraday, which is Write a Song Day (Lyrics and/or Music), I decided to share with you some lovely lyrics inspired by people with whom I work. In case you can't sense the humor, I was goofing around and wrote this song about two very...shall we say, lackadaisical employees here at the library. Feel free to image whatever tune you like to go along with the lyrics. Enjoy! ha!

The Ballad of the D’s

Sitting D and Slow D
Take life just as you like
Don’t rush for me or anyone
You know it isn’t worth it

Sitting D and Slow D
You live life in a daze
Don’t rise for me or anyone
It’s not worth it in the end

Sometimes this life just moves so fast
But not for our two friends
They take life at their own speed
No rush to get to the end

Sitting D and Slow D
Alike yet different still
Don’t change for me or anyone
You know it isn’t worth it

Sitting D and Slow D
Enthralled with lazy chat
Don’t fight for me or anyone
It’s not worth it in the end

Sometimes life just moves so fast
But not for our two friends
They take like at their own speed
No rush to get to the end…..

Things to Do If You Go to Work With Your Mom

Begin reading a popular children's novel.

After a short time, move on to Guinness Book of World Records 2008. It is really the only thing worth reading anyway.

Try a bit of a couple different movies. Your library's movie selection kind of sucks, mom.

Insist that you must eat, even though it is only about 10:30 am. Mmm, El Pollo Loco!

Blow up balloons that you find at your mom's desk, then draw funny faces on them! See if you can get her to display them at the public desk.

Place Nancy Pearl and Einstein in a compromising position. Don't say anything, just leave them on mom's desk. She'll find them later and have a great laugh, right?

Finally, your mom will agree to take you over to the skatepark on her lunch hour. Yay! Success!

This day brought to you through the mind of Handsome Lad, a very busy 11 year old!

My Oldest Son

My son Audie Kick Back Dude was born 23 years ago. I went into labor around 5pm on the 3rd and even though he was my first, I recognized labor! His dad pretended it wasn't happening, puttering around, washing his car. Well there wasn't much he could do anyway. Around 10pm we decided it was time to go to the hospital. While I labored, WTG watched Saturday Night Live. Thats fine too, because I am not the type that wanted to be talked to or massaged or anything while in labor. Just leave me alone was my motto. Kick Back Dude slid easily into the world at 1:17 am on Sunday, August 4th. How clearly I remember the nurses laughingly calling, "See you next year!" as I was wheeled off to my room afterward. I was appalled! Of course, I did have another baby just 14 months later, so I guess they knew their stuff....
Kick Back Dude has been true to his name since the day he was born. He was a calm, peaceful baby. He started walking before he was 10 months old. As he grew he enjoyed school, although I can't claim he was a merit scholar. He just didn't care that much! Still, he is really my only child that reads consistantly just for the pleasure of it. We share that, and also an interest in independant films and new music.
I was surprised by his choice to start a family at such a young age. He had been first witness to the struggles that his father and I encountered by not being a bit more established before going down that path. And I do see he and his partner struggling. However, all in all, he is doing a magnificent job. He is one of the best fathers I have ever seen and very attentive to Princess Diva as well.
Here's to you, Kick Back Dude. I couldn't ask for a finer first born child. You made it all seem way too easy.Kick Back Dude sporting some crazy Jeebus hair!

One Headlight

Yes, I do like the Wallflowers as a matter of fact! Okay, moving on...it is Saturday and time for our Saturday Scavenger Shots. If you aren't already playing along, please consider doing so :-) This week's word was chosen by new to the game Greg. He chose what turned out to be a really fun word. DRIVE, baby, DRIVE!

To start, of course, you must see the car that I DRIVE.

Mostly, I DRIVE to and from work and it looks a little something like this...

I realized that there are other sorts of DRIVE. For example...

Here is a screwDRIVEr! If you didn't want to use a screwDRIVEr, perhaps you could DRIVE a nail with a hammer...but I didn't have a picture of that going on.

I stole this picture of a cute thumb DRIVE. Aw!

Last, but by no means least, watch out for this brand new DRIVEr, please.

Thank you for having the DRIVE and determination to stop by. Now, go find Greg and see who he's tagging for next week's adventure!

The Power of Your Thoughts Kind of Scares Me...

I already have a positive update to yesterday's bummer post. Kick Back Dude just called to tell me he has gotten another job. It is similar to what he was doing before so he can jump right in. The money is a bit less, but some money coming in is much better than no money coming in. So, yay!

Thanks for your good thoughts everyone! You're the best blog friends EVER.

How Low Can We Go?

I am feeling extremely worried. Kick Back Dude just lost his job today. It was just a cutback type thing, with last in, first out going on. They were barely making it as it was. Princess Diva works about 8 hours a week at Kohls and what else can be expected of her at this stage of her pregnancy?

I know this isn't my problem directly, but it is certainly close enough. I can't really do anything to help them, as I am just getting by myself. I guess I'll just ask for your good thoughts for their young family. Thanks.

Sure It's a Disaster, But It's a Natural Disaster!

This Choose and Defend Wednesday is going out in honor of the rockin', rollin' earthquake we experienced here Southern California yesterday a little before noon. Now, different areas are subject to different natural disasters. For the sake of simplicity, we will focus on just three of them. For the purpose of our Choose and Defend discussion, I am asking you to Choose the natural disaster closest to your heart, and as always, to Defend your choice! Don't think of it as something that could ruin your life...we don't get that serious here. Rather, think of it as a movie of the week and you are the star! What is your natural disaster?

Hurricane?

Earthquake?

Tornado?
Choose and Defend! Thanks for playing...and be prepared for anything :-)

Weekend at laura b.'s

This was one of those weekends where I have ended up more tired on Monday morning than I was at the end of last week.

Friday was my day off and payday, so it was also a day to pay bills, do some grocery shopping and make other random purchases that seemed necessary. I felt like I spent all afternoon just running around on these little errands. The day did have a nice ending though. Girlie Girl and I went to the movies with Kick Back Dude and Princess Diva. WTG's mom had asked to have their girls over, so they were excited to have a free evening. We ended up seeing Step Brothers. I knew what to expect with this and wasn't looking for high art. I thought it was very funny, with many actual laugh out loud moments. Just what I needed :-) After the movie, I took Girlie Girl to a friend's house and the rest of us went for Chinese food. I am still eating leftovers.

Saturday I worked. It was kind of quiet in the morning, but very busy in the afternoon. We had a performer come and he had a bunch of animals for the kids to handle. It was a great adventure, although a bit chaotic, as this guy hands things over to the children and lets them be the ones to take the creatures around for everyone else to touch. The cutest thing was his wallaby, Matilda, who had free fun of the room. She was so friendly and sweet.
While I was working the rest of my family was attending a memorial service for WTG's dad, who died, what...about a month ago? I heard later that there was a big fuss between WTG and his two brothers, but that otherwise everything went fine.
WTG and one his brothers ended up going out drinking later, so Handsome Lad came to spend the night with me. WTG has been a recovering alcoholic for about six years now, but lately I have been hearing of these bar outings with friends. I wouldn't worry, it is his business, except for the fact that Handsome Lad lives with him. When he is drinking, he is, well, you know...a drunk. I guess if I hear that things are getting bad I will step in, but otherwise will try not to assume the worst. I am uneasy though.

This brings us to Sunday, which was another of those running around days. In the morning a bunch of us went out for an early lunch to celebrate my sister's birthday. That was fun, but after that I felt like all I did was drive Handsome Lad here and there, or worse, sit in the passenger seat while Girlie Girl drove herself here and there. Later that evening there was yet another meal out. I hadn't had much chance to sit down with Secret Agent Man and Social Animal for awhile, so I took them out for a little dinner. Handsome Lad was there too. They seem to be getting themselves together and doing what they should be. Handsome Lad decided to go home with them and Girlie Girl was off spending the night with a friend, so I anticipated a nice quiet night. However, around 10:30, Handsome Lad called to tell me that he was alone (although actually Secret Agent Man was there, but shut up in his room), he wasn't sure where his dad was, he wasn't answering his phone, and could he come stay with me. Of course I went and got him. He was at my place for about an hour or so before WTG called him to say he'd "be home soon" that he was "out with an old friend". Handsome Lad told him he was at my place and I guess that's all that was said.

Anyway, this was a long post about not too much. Just my weekend, which as I said, has somehow left me more tired than before. I hope that WTG is not actually sliding down a slippery slope here, but it certainly sounds as though he is, and I certainly am not looking forward to dealing with the fall out.

Are You From Around Here?

Time for Saturday Scavenger Shots, with an interesting word chosen by the clever Cricket. This week's theme word is LOCAL.

I had these plans to go out and photograph some of my LOCAL sights and interesting views, etc. Didn't quite happen though. I do have one nice shot though...
This is a ginormous Morton Bay Fig tree located in a little pocket park, cunningly named "Big Tree Park".

Every parent in Glendora probably has a picture of their kids standing amidst the roots of this tree. When I think of the city where I live, this tree is one of the cool things that comes to mind for me. It is our LOCAL celebrity! Well that tree and Michael Anthony, who was in Van Halen before Eddie brought in Wolfie to replace him. And I have no photos of Michael Anthony...

Thanks for stopping in at your handy dandy LOCAL blog for a visit! Check with Cricket and see who she is tagging for next week :-)

Consider This Fair Warning

Here she is, the fabulous Girlie Girl, now equipped with a Learner's Permit. May God have mercy on our souls.
