Never Was There a Love Like Ours Gigi

I didn't blog on Blog About Your Most Cherished Childhood Possession Day, but today seems like a good day to have at it.
Gigi...how can I describe her? Actually, I wish I had a picture handy. I will have to find one and scan it at some point. Anyway, let me try and describe her. She is a white stuffed dog...her body was filled with old rags, because originally she was meant to be a pajama bag. She has a zipper in the back and the idea is that each morning when you take off your jammies, you store them in your darling pajama bag which reclines adorably on your bed disguised as a stuffed toy. Gigi never held my pajamas. She stayed stuffed all the time with whatever my mom had stuffed in there. At the very beginning of her life, I believe she was a dapper young fellow with a felt top hat and bow tie. By the time I have any real memory of her, those things were long destroyed and she was just a plain white dog. I don't remember why I called her Gigi, but that was her name and my mom says I did name her. She didn't look like a traditional dog. She was sort of long and skinny, with long, snaky arms and legs, a longish, flattened body, and a cute round head that flopped on her shoulders. She had embroidered black eyes, a black nose, and a little red mouth. I loved her droopy, hanging down ears.
I had many stuffed animals as a little girl and some of them were quite treasured. Gigi, however, was the undisputed Queen of all of my toys. She was so perfect to hug and rest my head on. I always thought of her as being kind and calm. She and my bear Bluey, were the only stuffed animals that I took when I moved out on my own. After I moved in with WTG, I ended up giving them back to my mom to hold, because he was always threatening to throw them away. Thinking back years later, that should have told me something! 20/20 hindsight...
Writing about her has made me really want to see her! I think it is time to get her back from my mom.

I used to have a bear as a kid...that was about the only stuffed animal I remember. It was filthy and was not allowed to be washed.

My wife got a stuffed bear when she was 6 months old and she still sleeps with "teddy" to this day. Cherished indeed.

I never posted about my favorite childhood possession! Ack! I'm slipping.

My favorite possession was my ragdoll named Happy. My mom made him for me and I took him everywhere. I patched him up last year and bought him some new clothes. He has two girlfriends, Mary Belle and Frida. They've been given new clothes too.

Evil-E: I don't remember Gigi or Bluey being washed. Maybe my mom snuck them in.

MrManuel: See? A nice husband doesn't make a big fuss over his wife's cherished childhood love!

Tara: Lucky Happy with two girlfriends! It's neat that you still have them :-)

Brings back memories of Gigi... an ancient wooden boat form my childhood. Somewhat rotten, always needing painting. I will have to blog about her now.

Mine was my teddy bear that I took to college and finally got rid of when I moved to Los Angeles. I wish I had kept it for my daughters now.

Churlita: Ever since I blogged about this yesterday I have been afraid to ask my mom if she still has Gigi, in case she doesn't. I would rather imagine she still has her then know she doesn't...
