Please join me in welcoming my new granddaughter to the world. She arrived August 10 at 4:29 am. I had come to the hospital to keep Kick Back Dude company at about 1:30 am, since Princess Diva had been in labor there since about 10 or so. Things started picking up speed really quickly it seemed...the nurses were sort of relaxed because before going off on a break or something the nurse who was caring for PD told the replacement nurse that this was a first baby..however, this was a second baby and things do tend to move a bit faster. By a little after 4 am the nurses were all set to deliver the baby themselves if the doctor didn't arrive in time. I ended up staying in the room (it was a labor and delivery suite). KBD was on one side and I was on the other as the baby was born. It was the first time I had been seen a baby being born that wasn't, you know, mine
:-) It was very exciting! After the baby made her escape, the doctor (who looked more like a homeless poet) offered the clippers to the proud father. He acted like he was being offered dessert after a full meal and said, "No, no, I'm good..." He offered them to me next and I was all over it. If you ever get a chance, be sure to cut the umbilical cord...it was an oddly amazing feeling.
She weighed in at 7 lbs., 1 oz. and 18.5 inches long. She has lots of dark hair and is an all around beautiful girl. Before she was born they had been kicking around a few names. A favorite was Brooklyn...but once she was born they decided to go more traditional and settled on Audrey May. I think that is a really pretty name. Here, she will be called Love Bug :-) I will surely post a picture or two soon.
I ask that you all send good thoughts to Love Bug and the rest of the little family.
Thanks!!!

Hey, that's great. I love the name Audrey. How cool that you got to be there for it.
Hey, congratulations to you and your family! Great choice with the name, Audrey May is beautiful.
My mom had a heart doctor that looked like, as you describe, "a homeless poet". Lol. Perfect description.
Congrats to you all...
yea! congrats!!! and i love bubble gum cigars.
Congrats, that is such a cool name. I am glad it wasnt Apple or Orange or something silly like that. Audrey has substance and feels full of character.
Whoo-hoo, I hope you are enjoying this!
Churlita: It was so much better being tableside than in the stirrups - haha!
Tara: I was really happy they went with such a pretty, non-trendy name.
Maybe there is a whole fraternity of poet/doctors out there :-)
BabyBull: Thanks!
MiniJonB: Thanks and please have as many bubble gum cigars as you like :-)
Viki: Thank you! I really do love the name, she will never have to be embarrassed by it like some of these new odd names.
I am enjoying this all very, very much.
YAAAY.
Happy birthday, Audrey May.
DiDC: Thanks and welcome back!
