Groovy Television

I tend to be a big fan of medical shows, but sometimes I find that I am tired of their weary cynicism. Quite awhile back they were running Emergency on TV Land. And I actually remember it from the original run in the bad old 70's. Here are three
reasons why I would occasionally prefer Emergency to, say, House:

1) On House the doctors and other personnel can get so frantic when working on patients. They yell orders to each other and growl things like "I'm telling you to step out!" On Emergency the paramedics and firemen cooperate and work quietly and
methodically. They pass each other things with a polite nod and sometimes there is no dialog at all when they are working.

2) On House when, for example, a doctor suggests to a father that he spend more time with his son, he is looking at a good ass kicking. On Emergency the dad says, "Thanks doc, thats a great idea!"

3) On House the closing shot is probably going to be House alone in his apartment, knocking back some more pills and perhaps morosely playing his piano, most certainly pondering the brutality of life.
On Emergency, it might end, as it did on one particular episode that I recall, with Joe sitting in bed after his successful go at a heart surgery having a nice thermos of clam chowder and reading a fashion magazine.

So there you have it. I am retreating to the days when men wore big fluffy sideburns and got embarrassed if they had to rescue a pretty girl in a bathtub.

Next installment....read about my love for a certain socially conscious Medical Examiner named Quincy. haha!

# 1 reason that Emergency is better - Randolph Mantooth. 'Nuff said.

Quincy Rocks. So does Jack Klugman. He's got a loving, hilarious book out about his memories of Tony Randall. It's called "Tony and Me".

And I loved it that the poker buddy (Speed) from the Odd Couple was the cop (Monahan) on Quincy. The actor was a great old character actor named Garry Walberg.

Sam was cool too.

Churlita: Ooooohhh, yeah. He was one good looking paramedic!

DiDC: I am going to put Tony and Me on my 'To Read' list. I always think it is nice when certain actors seem to turn up in projects together, probably just because they are pals.
I love Sam! Adorable and smart, how could you go wrong?
