When I Was a Brady

Like lots of other kids who grew up in the 70’s (yes, yes, I am ooold), I loved the Brady Bunch. Peter was my favorite boy and Jan was my favorite girl. My sister and I used to pretend the Brady’s were our brothers and sisters. It wasn’t that we didn’t like our own family. I would say we had a relatively happy childhood. Still, we always felt that just the two of us were insufficient in some way. It wasn’t perfect, since we were both girls, throwing off that fabulous Brady gender symmetry. Nonetheless, we felt like we could fit in. We played elaborate games with our imaginary siblings, trying very hard to be true to how Greg, Marcia, Peter, Jan, Bobby, and Cindy would actually react in different situations. We were quite imaginative. The parents, our real ones or the Brady ones, didn’t figure in too much. We didn’t care about the grown-ups.
So, imaginary Brady siblings…insanity or pretty standard childhood game? You be the judge.

Insanity for sure. Just as insane as pretending to be your favorite member of KISS (Ace) or pretending to be your favorite Star Wars characters (Han Solo, Darth Vader).....kids have a level of insanity that can only be understood by them later in life.

Not totally insane. Total insanity would be if you included the later addition of cousin Oliver into your imagination.

Believe it or not I think alot of kids imagine themselves in another family.. whether they had it good or not..I use to imagine different families from t.v shows too.. that's what we do as kids.. We then grow up and all is left is the memories from our childhood.

My biological fathers name was David Jones. I haven't ever met him. My dad adopted me when I was a year old when he married my mom.
I used to tell people that my "real" father was Davey Jones from the Monkee's.
Imagining family is totally normal.

that's perfectly normal. i always wanted to live in a Brady Split-Level Ranch with that funky staircase.

I think it's normal. My son calls himself Sharkboy and I'm his Shark dad! My daughter plays she's Lava Girl and mum is Lava Mum!

Evil-E: What a cute Ace you must have been!

AlienCG: NO Cousin Oliver EVER.

BabyBull: And those memories can feel lost until all of a sudden they come crashing back.

Rachel: My sister went to her prom with your dad!!!

MiniJonB: The Brady house was awesome! And isn't the idea of a live in maid in a house like that pretty nifty?

FW: That is so cute! Obviously your kids are big Robert Rodriguez fans. Did they like the Spy Kids movies too?

Yeah, they loved them!
