Take a Bite of My Heart Tonight

It is a sizzling hot Wednesday here in Southern California and it is time to do a super cool (har!) Choose and Defend. See me selling it? I try. Anyway, let us think of someone besides ourselves for a change. Let's think of the innocent creatures with whom we share the planet. Let's imagine that you have the opportunity to make some sort of impact in the animal world...or maybe more in the human world, actually...  Which of these options would you prefer?

Discover a New Species
OR

Save a Species From Extinction
Put on your pith helmet and some of those no-nonsense boots and let's get to work. Choose and Defend!

I would want to discover a new species so that it can be named after me. There's nothing wrong with the names of endangered species, but they've already been named. I want to DISCOVER A NEW SPECIES.

(I am being facetious)

Easy - I'd definitely go with save a species from extinction. Discovering a new one would be pretty cool and add to the general knowledge in the world, but I think if you could save a species you'd actually be doing some good. I'd have to go with helping over personal fame.

We seem to only want to discover new species so that we can hunt them, annoy them, or turn them into bacon, so inevitably "discovering a new species" turns into "save a species from extermination." How's that for crotchety?

I think I'm going to take save one from extermination and leave the secret critters where they are. Unless they taste like bacon.

Jasen: Facetious or not, your answer has been tabulated :) Good luck with your Aliencoffeegroundus! One for Discover a New Species.

Secret: That is a nice way to look at it. Personal fame will come some other way :) One for Save a Species From Extinction.

James: I like how you turned extinction into extermination...it sounds more brutal that way. Bacon flavored animals deserve what they get. Two for Save a Species From Extinction.

Everyone: So far it is 1-2 with Discovery trailing Saving. And even then, we may have some facetiousness going on. I'm cool with that...anyone else want to answer either seriously or facetiously?

Save a species from extinction. The mystery species will be just fine without being discovered, but another species on the brink could use our help.

BB: Very good point :) Three for Save a Species From Extinction.

Now 1-3!

I go for saving a species too, although the discovery of a new species would be massively cool.
