I'll Break Right Through the Irony

Choose and Defend Wednesday showed up on my doorstep again today! So, I thought I'd bring you all in to help me tend this thing. Pretty sure I've asked some sorts of variations on this...but not this exact question. So hand over this information about yourself (Choose) and then act like someone in the room just called you out on it...Defend yourself!

Are you more of....

A Follower / Indian / Worker Bee
OR

A Leader / Chief / Queen Bee

Of course I am aware that most people are sometimes each of these things, sometimes neither.  But as a rule, you tend to see yourself as one or the other, right? *Just say, "RIGHT!"*  Great, thanks. So now, all that's left to do is Choose and Defend!

Leader. Definitely. I have authority issues and always step into a leadership role if at all possible. It started early - when I was in 5th grade we were divided into groups and told to create a Thanksgiving play as a group. I wrote it, casted it (with myself in the lead role) and directed it. None of the other kids objected - they just were happy to have me doing all the work, I think. And several years ago when I took a leadership class through the Chamber of Commerce, we were first given some tests about our management style. I was laughably off the charts for insisting on running the show. It's not always pretty, but I just do NOT follow.

Leader. When I'm feeling strong and secure and I care. Otherwise, I'm happy following. Unless people are idiots.

I am a natural follower! I do not want the spot light to fall on me. I like knowing what is expected of me and then doing my part. I am happy to help others do their parts as well if I have tended to my own first. Yet, I do not like directing others very much. The exception here is children. I do like to teach children and have no trouble leading them. But adults? Forget about it!

Oh, I'm definitely a worker bee. I don't ever want to be a manager. I mean technically I'm a manager of my own life, but I wouldn't want that kind of responsibility at work.

Secret: I think there is definitely something to be said for having such a clear feeling for what your role in life is! One for Leader.

NoRegrets: haha! Don't leave things to the idiots! Two for Leader.

Silly: I think I could have written your choice and defense myself :) One for Follower.

Tara: I agree, managing ourselves is very different from being asked to manage others. Two for Follower.

Everyone: So far we have a tie of 2-2 for Leaders v. Followers. Hoping I can get some more votes in here! Surely you have an opinion...after all, it is about yourself! Tell us...are you a Leader or a Follower?

I am a horrible follower. I don't do well with authority. I don't do well running at someone else's pace. I can't tow a party line.

By default that makes me a leader, I guess, but the only person I'm interested in leading is me.

James: Leading yourself is enough. Three for Leader.

Now Leader leads 3-2. Makes sense ;-)
