Me Go Crazy

Just a quick note to vent some frustration about work.  I am adjusting to my new, weird boss. She is weird, no way out of that...but I could work with just weirdness...there is something else.  I don't like having a meeting of some sort nearly every single day.  Yesterday, I met with her individually to...I still don't know.  We talked about the internet presence of the Children's Room.  We talked about...something like...the room as an organism and how we relate to it  And I have some trouble understanding what it is she is looking for a lot of the time.  Right now, I am trying to be open to suggestions, to offer suggestions, to stay on top of things.  So much of what she says strikes me as kind of ridiculous, but I fear seeming old and set in my ways.  She always makes a big deal of the fact that I've been here for 10 years. It is a double edged sword for sure.
On the home front WTG (the ex) has lost his house.  That was something a long time coming, but it still shakes things up.  They have to be out by the middle of November.  None of that is really my problem, but of course I have it on my mind. Fortunately Handsome Lad is doing well at school and loving Cross Country. The older kids all seem fine, but of course with grown folks it can be harder to tell. I guess until I hear specifically otherwise, I can assume things are fine.  Not looking to borrow trouble!
I hope that you are all less stressy than me.  I hope I can be less stressy soon.  I just need to figure out what my boss wants and try not to worry about the family.  There is so little I can really do about any of it.
Thanks for the rant space.  Come back tomorrow and I will try to have a fun Choose and Defend.  Suggestions welcomed!  Also, please note...Saturday's word is SECRET.  Ooooohhhhhh!

No magic words. Everything you mention here is a legitimate stressor, and you'd be a little crazy if it wasn't getting to you. Hang in there.

Oh no. That would freak me out too. Or worse, I'd launch into a full blown fantasy about the room being a giant single cell creature engulfing everyone in it. Maybe it would be warm and squishy like a waterbed and very enjoyable. But I digress!

Its never easy when you have a strange personality to deal with. Especially one who does not make their needs clear. But it sounds to me like you are doing all that you can. Maybe she is just peeing on the trees to establish herself as the boss and is insecure about her ability so she is trying to over compensate. But that really is weird. My sympathy!

As for WTG's house... you are a very caring person. Glad to hear that all else seems to be going well for your peeps.

Hmm... does she expect a response? Or areyou just a sounding board? Can you make some sort of statement like 'i've been here 10 years and it's always nice to get fresh blood in here to help get new eyes on how to improve things or do things differently' I don't know. Soemthing to create alignment?

Hope things get better for you soon. Work stress is no fun.

Odd. I wonder if she is trying to prove something?

Hope the stress settles soon.

James: Thanks. Can't say I handle stress very well, but I do feel better when I talk about it a bit.

Silly: I'm sure there is some tree peeing going on. She seems to really want to make some sort of mark. But change for change sake can really backfire...and by saying that I become the negative one :) Grrrrr.

NoRegrets: I have certainly indicated my excitment for new ideas. And she definitely wants feedback. I try, but she keeps saying..."what else?" It must be some management technique, but it baffles me.

3GK: Thank you. I hope so too!

Secret: I'm certain she is trying to make some sort of impression with the higher ups. Don't want to thwart her, but also... some of what she says is just odd...

Sounds like a difficult situation and a bit depressing if it's all just a cynical ladder climbing exercise. Self preservation is important, so I suggest you're doing all the right things at the moment and to keep a positive mind. If it's at all possible, maybe just think about the ridiculousness of it and see the funny side?

FW: Your advice is sound. I am especially trying to remain in the right frame of mind to see the funny side of her behavior. This isn't exactly a life or death business.

That's so rough, both the family issues and the work issues. Maybe you could suggest to your boss in a polite way that meetings be reduced to once a week so as to make them more efficient?

Constant meetings can really hinder productivity.
