I'm a Walmart shopper and they're not good at providing the paper option, so I usually get the plastic. But I would rather have paper. Didn't someplace in Arizona ban plastic bags recently?

Well, since I normally forget the BYOB in the car, I go for plastic because we use them for garbage bags and cat poop bags.

I usually use plastic. The places I go never give me an option. Usually if I buy wine or something, they'll put the bottle in a paper bag and then put that bag in plastic.

I have fabric bags but rarely remember to use them. Maybe the plastic in the bags are causing memory loss.

BYOB, thank you.

3GK: It is true...a lot of places don't actually ask anymore, they just default you to plastic.
I don't know about AZ., but I do know a few states or more local governments are working on it.
One for Plastic.

NoRegrets: Yeah, they do have uses after their inital one. If we don't ever get them when we shop, we just end up buying bags for the little trashcans...
Two for Plastic.

Tara: I have a LOT of my own cloth bags I have accumulated and when I forget them I get irritated with myself. You may be on to something with the memory loss thing :-)
Three for Plastic.

Churlita: There is something I really like about paper bags. I think they remind me of my childhood.
One for B.Y.O.B.

C4C: Aside from the green aspects, I love how much I can stuff into my cloth bags! You're welcome :-)
Two for B.Y.O.B.

Everyone: Looks like everyone has more than one preference, when it comes down to it...or they have their usual and their back-up. Keeps things interesting! So far, I have it at 3 for plastic, 2 for B.Y.O.B, when figuring what we ened up with primarily. Anyone else want to bag it? It's not too late!

How many places even offer paper bags anymore? I bring my own most of the time, but occasionally forget. But I use the plastic bags for trash, so I need them once in a while.

Secret: The still offer them pretty much everywhere here...maybe it is a CA thing. I had no idea.
Three for B.Y.O.B

Tie score between Plastic and BYOB! And maybe paper was not given a fair chance, as I didn't know they weren't offered most places :-)

Everywhere I go shopping they pretty much only have plastic and some places have really horrible bags. I prefer paper myself, because I use them to put my old newspapers in so I could get them to recycling. I'm saying paper.

AlienCG: I think paper bags are so useful! They tend to be quite sturdy...and who doesn't need another paper bag book cover? One for Paper. Finally! :-D

Only a few selected stores have paper bags. If my shop is better planned I would take my BYOB bags, I do a lot of impulse grocery shopping though and don't have the foresight to carry my bags with me. I would have to say plastic but I try and re-use them for other things.

FW: I mean to always have my cloth bags with me...but don't. I try not to accumulate too many plastic bags, even if I intend to use them for something, because it makes me feel like a hoarder :-) Too much TV...
You make 4 for Plastic, putting it in the lead here.
