Do You Want to Know a Secret?

Hello all and welcome to another Choose and Defend Wednesday. I invite you all to make a choice and then to defend that choice! This week I was wondering about people's roles in social discourse. Naturally, we can all have different roles with different people, but just in general....

Are you...

A Listener?

Or are you...

A Talker?

Yes, you are probably all a bit of both. Completely one or the other and it isn't really social discourse anymore, now is it? But you know you are much more inclined towards one....so tell me about it! Choose and Defend!

I'm a listener. If I had to pick one. I'm listening more often. But really I'm a listener to most, a talker (a babbler) to the few, the unlucky few. But yeah, growing up I was a listener. At work I'm a listener. [I'm talk/typing up a blue streak here, though, aren't I] People just seem to want to talk. I let them talk. It seems to help them. They sort out their thoughts. If I see an opportunity to insert somethin, i do.

I'm a listener. I could sit back on a couch and listen to lots of conversation without ever wanting to break in and give my two cents. I'm also a good tuner-outer. Especially with politics and sports.

I'm a talker by trade.. But I have learned to listen when a friend needs a shoulder to cry on..

Listener. But it's not really a defend thing. It just IS... I'd rather learn from other people than spew my nonsense.

I'm a talker, and a talker and a talker. I talk a lot. Sometimes it gets me in trouble, but I do manage to stop long to listen to something.

I'm almost equally both. I am loud and talky socially, but people tell me things they don't tell anyone else. I think it's because I'm so open about my stuff.

Bobby: I think you're right, sometimes it really does help people just to let them talk.

Tara: And I bet people really appreciate that about you, right? So many people don't listen, they are just waiting for the blank space so they can begin driving the conversation.

Daffy: I know you keep things lively wherever you go! And from what I've seen you give great advice, so keep on doing what you do :-)

Mrs: Yeah, I know you can spin a yarn, too :-) I see that you have the gift of not being intimidated by meeting new people and striking up a conversation. I'm so jealous.

NoRegrets: Here, you are required to defend your personality traits! haha! No, I totally get it. As the old saying goes - Better to be silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.

AlienCG: Well, of course you are a talker. You've got a brain working non-stop and overtime...some if it has to escape from time to time! But I know you to be a good listener too.

Churlita: So you are our Even Steven! It does seem to disarm people...when you are open with them, they lose their fear of being open with you.

Everyone: A tie, sort of. I am seeing 3 listeners, 3 talkers, and Even Churliten. Will someone come along and break the tie? Speak up!

Okay, I tie break.

Unless I am cracking a joke, I am listening.

Cricket: Thank you for stepping up! And we have a winner! Listeners prevail 4, no 5, with me...to 3 talkers, and you-know-who taking the middle ground :-)
