An Unexpected Lift

I have been feeling a bit down and overwhelmed lately. While I am proud to have two of my kids graduating next week and I am glad that school is almost over for the year, it all adds up to many extra expenses and many extra activities. I feel like I have been late for work or had to leave early so much lately for one event or another. Luckily my boss is really nice about it. Anyway, I have been somewhat stressed. Not to mention WTG sitting around, not doing anything to contribute to his recovery, and seeming to spend his copious amounts of free time thinking of ways to pick on the kids until they call me up in tears telling me they can't take it anymore.
I was relieved to find today that the little things can still make me smile. Today at lunch I decided to treat myself to a Subway sandwich. The experience started out on a positive note as I was right behind a firefighter in line. Unfortunately, he wasn't one of the ones I could fantasize about, because I know him, his wife, and his three kids...they live in the same city as me, and he just happens to work for the same city that I work for. Anyway, it was someone to talk to in line a bit. I noticed that there was someone right behind me in line as well. After Mr. Fireman had begun ordering his sandwich, I began ordering mine: a six inch chicken, bacon, ranch on Italian herbs and cheese bread, toasted. The girl got mine going and then went on to the guy behind me in line. He said in this amused voice that he wanted the exact same thing as "her" (pointing to me), except footlong. He was just a young guy, Chinese...he had that hair that makes kids look like Manga characters or something...and he was so tickled that we liked the same sandwich. He was so happy about this little coincidence and I looked at him and had to smile too. The girl behind the counter was watching our little encounter when the next guy walked in and ordered the same sandwich. So, then she's looking at us and smiling too, like we all have some goofy secret. It was just one of those weird little moments you have in public places sometimes. I mean, there is nothing so unusual about three people in a row ordering the same menu item, but for some reason we had this unusual reaction. I don't know... Anyway, I paid for my sandwich and left feeling lighter in spirit than I have lately.
To top it off, when I started my car they were playing Brimful of Asha by Cornershop on the radio. Now there is a catchy little song, and the line "Everybody needs a bosom for a pillow, everybody needs a bosom" is funny and sweet.
And that, friends, was my unexpected lift today...I really needed it.

it always helps to get that lift.. especially when it's not expected.. How nice that was for you..
IS WTG such a a big loaf that he can't find anything better to do than pick on someone that's not even his size... he needs to grow up...Sounds like nothing more than a bully...How soon can you kick his butt out the door?

Glad you got that little lift you needed!

That was great. I'm usually in line with people having inappropriate conversations on their cell phones. Which can be amusing too sometimes.

I like Subway sandwiches too. Never had that experience of ordering exactly the same though. Glad you got a lift out of it.

A lift is good, keep on lifting. It gets better, right?

BabyBull: I'd say bully is a good word for WTG. I am on my way out, because I can't take it anymore.

MrManuel: Thanks! Sometimes all it takes is a small moment of fun.

Churlita: haha! That can definitely be interesting, but is usually more...disturbing :-)

FW: I don't require much, do I? Just a nice sandwich and people who seem pleased to be on the planet.

Evil-E: It better get better! I am waiting.

Moments like that are wonderful. Very brief, a little surreal, hard to explain sometimes...

Sebastien: Yes! It was exactly that...a brief, slightly surreal, and hard to explain moment. I like being reminded that those moments can happen.
