I Love Them All, One By One

Welcome to Choose and Defend Wednesday. We are deep in the middle of the Silly Season. [Note: officially Silly Season begins with Halloween and ends with New Year's Eve]  I thought it would be a good time to compare the two major Autumn holidays and pit them against one another in a brutal fight to the finish! Or, you know, we could just Choose and Defend...  Which of these two holidays is your favorite (Choose) and why (Defend)?

Halloween

OR

Thanksgiving

I know you will all tell it like it is...so tell!

PS- If you are not American, perhaps you have a similar sort of harvest festival type holiday you could use?

Thanks for participating in Choose and Defend Wednesday!!!

When my kids were still dressing up and there was trick or treating door to door, it would have been Halloween hands down. But now all I do is open the door and hand out candy to little folk I don't know.

So I'll choose Thanksgiving... because there will be family! I can't think of anything better than being with people you love and care about, who love and care about you.

Thanksgiving - mostly because it's not just take, it's give (helping cook) and take (eating) and giving thanks.

Thanksgiving! Actually, of ALL the holidays, Thanksgiving is my all time favorite holiday.

Thanksgiving. Mmmm...delicious Thanksgiving. Turkey, dressing, real cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie...

Wait, what was the question?

Silly: It is true that Halloween is very different depending on whether or not you have young children. One for Thanksgiving.

NoRegrets: A more balanced holiday :) Two for Thanksgiving.

Silver: Oh, that's cool! I've hit upon an actual favorite :) Three for Thanksgiving.

3GK: Let me wipe the drool from the comments box here....
haha! Four for Thanksgiving.

Everyone: Almost unanimous for Thanksgiving as the fave! I do have one Twitter friend @Crackityjones1 who said he prefered Halloween. He is Welsh, but said he still felt he could be impartial :) So, let's say 4-1 for Thanksgiving. Any other voices are welcome.

I used to like making costumes for the kids and the few Halloween parties I got to go to were fun. But other than that, what it means now is pizza and beer with friends. Which is cool, but not something terribly thrilling. Then again, I also have mixed feelings about Thanksgiving. Mainly because of the whole dead-bird-on-the-table thing. And because half the or another it usually involves being with people I love, even if they are crazy. So my vote is for Thanksgiving.

Secret: I have seen that slow transition in my holidays over the years as my kids have grown up. Good thoughts on the subject! Five for Thanksgiving.
