Seasons Don't Fear the Reaper

As always, after Monday's holiday I am completely thrown off on my days. Where am I? Luckily, I have markers that help place me in time and space. One of them is Choose and Defend Wednesday. This week's is based on a discussion DR and I had a few weeks ago. I'm sure you've had this discussion as well.  So, let's bring it here, shall we?  It is life and death!

If it were possible to make this choice...would you want to know when to expect your death? Or would you prefer for it to remain a mystery? Choose and tell us why you made that choice.

Keep the Mystery

OR

Know Ahead of Time

Share your thought and participate in Choose and Defend Wednesday. It's a fun way to mark that middle of the week slide toward sloth...or is that just me?

You have this every-other-week deep decision making thing going on.

I have no desire to know when I will die. If I don't know, I can plan as if I will live forever. If I know I will die on a specific date, I would probably say, "I have plenty of time to go to Australia and see a kangaroo before I die." Of course, by the time I go , it will be two weeks before my death and seeing that kangaroo will pretty much be for nothing.

I don't want to know. I'd spend my whole life trying to figure out how to put it off. That would be a lot of energy spent on something I couldn't change...And I already spend too much energy on that.

I would prefer to let it remain a mystery. I was thinking about a quote today about death. I think it was Woody Allen who said, "I'm not afraid of dying, I just don't want to be there when it happens."

Anyway, no, I don't want to know when exactly my time will be up. No thank ya.

I'll take the mystery. Chances are it won't be very exciting. I'll stick with my morbid fantasies...not that I think about it much anyway.

Mystery! I once had sort of a chance to know and passed it up. I want to be able to live my life like there's no tomorrow even if there's going to be one.

I'd definitely be tempted to know but I think that in the end I'd choose not to.

If I ever learned that day I'd probably live in terror of it until it came.

Jasen: I like to mix it up :) You make an interesting point about the way we might misuse our time. One for Mystery.

Churlita: Trying to change the unchangeable...yeah, I've been there :) Two for Mystery.

Tara: A Woody Allen quote! I think that totally legitimizes Choose and Defend! Three for Mystery.

3GK: haha! Your morbid fantasies. Four for Mystery.

NoRegrets: I am intrigued by the fact that you actually gave up the chance to sort of know. Interesting.... Five for Mystery.

BB: I can definitely see the way it might create fear, the knowing. Six for Mystery.

Everyone: It is unanimous thus far! 6-0, bloggers would prefer not to be informed of their date of demise :) Does anyone who hasn't had a chance to post disagree? Or agree? Let us know!

Keep the mystery. I would obsess over the date if I knew it.

I guess it might depend on whether some Final Destination thing was going on or not. If so, I might want to take some evasive action to try and cheat death. But then, those deaths all seem quick and by unexpected means - so there are some advantages. I think I'd rather be unaware, I get stressy enough on a Sunday knowing I have work the next day. Who knows how horrible I would be to live with if I knew my death day.

James: That seems to be the consensus! Seven for Mystery.

FW: haha! That's funny...we do stress about something like work when we know it is coming...no multiply that...Good point :) Eight for Mystery.

We're all still into Keeping the Mystery :)
