I Will Always Be Weird Inside

Hey there daddy-os and lil mamas. Since Father's Day is this Sunday, I thought I'd do a Choose and Defend Wednesday in their honor. There are lots of polls out there right now about "Favorite TV Dad" so I looked at some of those to see what dads came up a lot. Among the favorites are Cliff Huxtable, Mike Brady, Homer Simpson, and in more recent shows, all the dads on Modern Family. All fine choices. Yet, I want to do something a little different. So....I decided to go with a choice between two vastly different father characters played by one of my favorite actors, Bryan Cranston. And I won't ask you who you'd want for a father...I will ask you to choose which father you'd prefer to be! You don't have to be a father or even a dude to answer this, of course. Just open your mind and Choose and Defend!

Hal from Malcolm in the Middle
OR

Walter White from Breaking Bad

Even if you haven't watched either of these shows, you have probably gotten the gist from cultural osmosis or something, right? So which crazy paterfamilias will you Choose? And how will you Defend yourself? Let's find out....Choose and Defend!

It's been a long time since Malcolm in the Middle. I remember it being funny though. But I'll have to go with Walter White. He's very good in that show. Reminds me that I need to Netflix that show more often.

I love Bryan Cranston, I'll always remember him as Tim Whatley from "Seinfeld".

I would like to be his Malcom in the Middle character, just because I have seen more episodes from that show than "Breaking Bad".

Tough one! Both are horribly flawed. Hal is the nice guy who lets the world walk all over him; Walt is the egomaniac who puts his family in danger under the guise of protecting them.

I'd have to go Hal, because I'd rather my kids were safe and the lawn was dead than vice versa.

When I see Bryan Cranston I automatically think of Hal from Malcolm in the Middle. I don't watch Breaking Bad, but I have heard good things about the character he plays. Another part of me wants to break the game and say Patrick Crump which was his role from the "Drive" episode of X-Files. However, I will go with Hal.

I love Bryan Cranston! And I love both shows. He does such a good job with both characters.

You fooled me! I saw Hal and got all excited, then I saw Walter and my brain screeched to a halt. I like them both so much for different reasons.

Strangely enough I think both characters mean well and end up in deep trouble. Walter has lost all control, though. The life he got into has taken over his choices. He must do things he would never have done. I could not do that.

I'll have to go with Hal because I am myself, much more of a Hal than I could ever be a Walter. Hal loves his family no matter how bizarre they behave. He is always there, even if he bumbles. Yep. I'd have to be Hal.

Oh my God - I absolutely loathe Malcolm in the Middle. I've only seen part of one episode of Breaking Bad, but that guy still gets my vote for not m=being connected to the first choice.

3GK: I really love Breaking Bad. Yes, be sure to Netflix it when you can! One for Walter White.

Tara: He was very funny on Seinfeld :) You're one of those anti-dentites!
I've been watching some old eps of Malcolm lately...the earlier ones especially were so good. One for Hal.

James: And of course flawed characters are the most interesting for an actor. He's pretty fearless.
haha! I have to love your defense :) Two for Hal.

Jasen: haha! I admire that you worked in another Cranston role...was he a father there? You should watch some Breaking Bad if you get the chance. Three for Hal.

Silly: It is nightmarishly fascinating watching Walter become more and more morally compromised.
I, too, find it easier to imagine being a bit of a screw up as opposed to getting sucked into such darkness! Four for Hal.

Secret: haha! That is an excellent, unarguable defense! Two for Walter White.

Everyone: So far Hal is ahead of Walter White 4-2. I will also mention that DR said, "Of course I'd choose Hal." So 5-2.
Let's hear from more people! Tell us which Bryan Cranston father you would be and why :)

I really want to see Breaking Bad. I'll vote for that since he's much more devious...
