The Beautiful People

Happy Wednesday!  Are you ready to Choose and Defend?  I sure hope so...

Okay, I just finished reading Patton Oswalt's book Zombie Spaceship Wasteland.  I like Oswalt's stand up a lot, as well as his fine comedic acting skills.  This book was quite funny and random.  I especially liked the essay relating to the title of the book.  He asserts that during the teen years, some people begin to sort of view their life in one of three ways...1) As a zombie story, 2) As a spaceship story, or 3) As a wasteland story.  In each scenario there is some kind of alienation, but different kinds.  I won't go on and on about it...I'm sure you get the idea.

In any event, I thought I would ask you what the central theme of your story is, if you must choose one of these -

Zombie

Spaceship
OR

Wasteland

Go ahead...think of your disaffected youth.  Or imagine your disaffected youth, if you were less of an oddball.  Now...Choose and Defend!

Hmmmmm. I guess I'd pick space, but only because I don't relate to zombie or wasteland stories at all.

I love zombies, but wouldn't want to have to deal with them. A space life would be fun!

Since I seem to survive and fight rather well in the zombie dreams I've had in the past, I'll choose "zombie" as my final answer.

Plus, I love the photo of Shaun and his crew. "You've got red on you."

I'll say spaceship. My disaffected youth was pretty grim and fleeing into my own little world was the only way I got through it.

What does it say that I never looked at my life that way? I was just trying to get through those teen years... I don't know that any apply. Perhaps I was a zombie living in a spaceship escaping a wasteland?

Secret: Sounds good to me! One for Spaceship.

MrManuel: Yeah, I guess watching others deal with them and having to deal with them yourself are two very different things :-) Two for Spaceship.

Tara: haha! That's right! It's like you've been mentally preparing for years. One for Zombie.

Churlita: I can see how that would happen. Three for Spaceship.

NoRegrets: It just says you aren't Patton Oswalt :-) And...one for All Three!

Everyone: I know this was a weird(er) one, but I liked your answers. Looks like we're basically a spaceship group going on. I would have gone with Wasteland for my teen self...total desolation :-)

I love post-apocalypse novels more than just about anyone.

But to mangle the Green Acres lyrics:

"Dahling I love you, but give me the Jupiter II"

Sure it can get lost. Really ,really lost, but comes with standard equipment a witty robot, an off road vehicle, and a space-pod. Unlike the Enterprise, it can be piloted by one or two people, and it is so fast it can pass through galaxies over night. If you want to take the RV experience into space, the Jupiter II will do it.
