Let Me Feel Your Lovin' Charms

Here we are at Wednesday where it is time, once again, to Choose and Defend.  Today I thought we could talk about communication. Some people are better at it than others...and there are a lot of complicated issues when it comes to communicating. But for now, I am going to take it down to it's most basic level; simply, the facility to technically understand what is being said.  You get to Choose your gift today! Which of these abilities would be most useful and/or enjoyable to you?

Understand All Animals
OR

Understand Every Human Language

Choose, and then practice your communication skills by defending your choice! Choose and Defend...because that is what Wednesday is for!

I would want to be able speak different languages.. that way I know what other people are saying..

It would be cool to understand animals like humans.. but speaking another language is way cooler!

Wait, would you only understand the languages or also be able to communicate? Either way, I'd have to opt for human languages. It would be so cool to travel all over the world and never have a language barrier. And I'm not sure I'd want to know which animals were sizing me up as a food source anyway.

Well I'll be the one to vote for talking to the animals. I meet many more animals that I cannot communicate with than people.

Besides, I have questions! For example why do dogs tuck their upper lip on one side under a tooth? Are they really mad and expressing that or did it simply get stuck there?

Roxy and I spend a lot of time together and I do all the talking. I wonder what she would say back.

But yes, it would be extremely cool to be able to understand people from all over the world. And I truly would like to know what those other people on the bus speaking whatever language that was were finding so funny since they kept looking at me. It would be a lot of fun to speak back to them and watch that reaction. Ha!

I'm afraid if I could understand all animals I'd hear that they all want to kill me. On the other hand, the same is true of all humans.

I think I'd take humans, though. Chalk it up to a voyeuristic streak, but I like the notion of gliding through Parisian streets and hearing all of the comments that I'm not supposed to understand, or finding out that Chinese candy is really just a practical joke played on white people ("Look! He's eating the eel and caramel! I told you he'd do it!"). Maybe I'd even find out that statuesque Swede in the corner thinks I'm handsome, or at least will do in a pinch. Hey, a guy can dream.

Mrs: It does seem like a big advantage to understand everyone, doesn't it? One for Understand Every Human Language.

Secret: Let's say you can communicate, as well as understanding.
I laughed about not wanting to know if you were being categorized as a meal :)
Two for Understand Every Human Language

Silly: I just read a story called King Puck, where a lonely Irish farmer gets his wish and his goat talks back to him! That could be you and Roxy :) Make her carry her end! haha! One for Understand All Animals.

James: It would be like a sort of spying, which is quite appealing. Remember the Seinfeld where Elaine brought Mr Costanza into the Korean nail salon with her? For now, if I were you I'd just go ahead and assume the tall Swede in the corner is way, way in to you :)
Three for Understand Every Human Language.

Everyone: Not a great response to this one, but I appreciate those of you who spoke up! So far, we stand at 3-1, with Understanding Every Human Language in the lead. Any other takers? We're listening...

I'd like to understand every human language. It would make things a little easier if I decide to travel the world. Does that mean I can speak every language too? That would be awesome.

Humans please!
I'd hear too much 'more food!' if it were the animals.

Tara: Yes, you can speak it too! :) It would make traveling easier. Four for Understand Every Human Language.

NoRegrets: haha! I'm pretty sure that is exactly right :) Five for Understand Every Human Language.

Now it is 5-1 and we want to undertand and be understood by our fellow humans.
