Today, my youngest son headed back to school for his Junior year. He isn't a huge fan of school, but I was heartened by the fact that he went cheerfully and seemed in a positive frame of mind about the year to come. This gave me the ammunition that I needed for an easy Choose and Defend Wednesday! Every new school year is a new beginning...a new chance to learn, a new chance to gain interests, and of course, a new chance to get new things!
What was your favorite part of going back to school as a kid?

Think back upon those days and remember what really gave you that push you needed to feel great about giving up all that wild, running around :) Sure, there were your friends, but let's leave them out of this! Choose and Defend!

Being a product of Catholic schools, new clothes meant more of the same. I enjoyed the school supplies and, as I approach my 40th birthday, I still do. New pens, fresh notebooks, pristine folders, all waiting for me to doodle them up as I sit through boring classes. NEW SCHOOL SUPPLIES.
I liked getting new clothes when I changed school but I grew so slowly that I don't remember many changes of clothing. I very much liked getting pristine new exercise books and new pencil cases though. I got through a lot of bags too. So my vote is for new supplies too.
My two favorite things were boxes: pencil boxes and lunch boxes. I'll never forget my first REAL pencil box as opposed to a cigar box bummed from the corner store, and I still love lunch boxes. They are wonderful little pieces of tin kitsch.
Okay, and I ate a little

Jasen: I always wondered what the clothes things was like for the uniformed kids! One for School Supplies.
FW: Around here, new clothes for the new school year seem de rigueur no matter how your old clothes have held up. Rather silly. Two for School Supplies.

Everyone: Up in here, we like our New School Supplies, coming out ahead of New Clothes at 0-3! Anyone else have an opinion? Do tell.
Sorry I'm late! I'm going to have to go with clothes. I can still remember a few of the back-to-school outfits I got as a kid. In particular, for kindergarten, I got a plaid dress (not quite mini but close), with a brown patent leather belt and brown patent leather boots. In my mind, I looked like a go go dancer. In reality, I looked like a chubby cheeked kid with a pixie haircut.
Secret: I imagined myself a whole new person in my new look each year :) The things we remember... One for Clothes.
Now we have a contest of 1-3!
