And Now, For My Impression of...

Thought I would check the Eclectic Calendar to see what was happening today. I found out that today is - Do an Impression of Robert DeNiro in the Mirror Today (Robert DeNiro’s Birthday – 1943) That's awesome, right? So, I did my impression, actually sitting right here at my desk. And it wasn't so much a straight DeNiro impression...more like DeNiro doing Travis Bickle...you know it...You talkin' to me? You must be talkin' to me... It was brilliant, I assure you. The thing is, you don't have to be too brilliant for people to be able to recognize who and what you are attempting to impersonate. Those lines, spoken a certain way, are instantly recognizable.

There are certain movie lines and characters that seem to be universally recognized. Then there are the lines and characters that may be less well known, except amongst you and your people. For example, in my family our limited ability to actually BE funny causes us to quote lines from movies to each other and laugh our asses off. One of our favorite movies, full of quotes, is Cable Guy. One of our favorite lines comes from Matthew Broderick as Steven Kovacs trying to let the Cable Guy down easy...You're a very nice guy, but I just don't have any room in my life for a new friend. I mean, I know it doesn't sound funny when you just read it, but you have to picture us saying it to each other in our Cable Guy quoting voice. Um. Yeah.

Anyway, I bet most of you have other resources to amuse your friends and family. But say you were like me and you wanted to throw out a line, do an impression if you will, that was sure to kill...what would you go to? You mean, let me understand this cause, ya know maybe it's me, I'm a little effed up maybe, but I'm funny how, I mean funny like I'm a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh, I'm here to effin' amuse you? Did you get that one? Didja? Yeah :-)

Evil-E and I have the Star Wars lines that we use on each other. I also have a few Animaniacs lines that I pull out from time to time. "Good night, everybody!"

My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die.

Anything from Big Lebowski kills in my book.

Trying to think, I think there are some great lines in Scarface with Pacino, love the vibe of that movie, specially the first half, I like his rise to the top of the drug dealer food chain ;)

Hmmm, Office Space is another great one with some good lines. But Lebowski is the one that always makes me laugh.

Being that Jess and I are HUGE movie people, we use movie quotes on each other daily. Raising Arizona is one of our most commonly used ones.

I LOVE Cable Guy. That is my 2nd favorite Carey movie.

"Say hello to my leedle friend!"

We also quote South Park relentlessly... "I require macaroni pictures" makes us happy and giggly.

"The Dude's out there taking it easy for us sinners." May not be acurate, but we say it that way.

Fun stuffs laura b!!!!

AlienCG: I am not surprised you guys would mine the gold that is Star Wars for quotes. And of course, Animaniacs...Hellooooo Nurse!
And Princess Bride too! What a Renaissance man :-)

Sebastien: Most mobster movies are filled with quotey goodness. And Office Space is awesome, especially if you can manage a good Milton impression :-) Some feel Big Lebowski is the holy grail of the movie quote and I'm not at all sure I could disagree.

MrManuel: Oh, Raising Arizona is great! And this here's the TV. Two hours a day, either educational or football, so you don't ruin your appreciation of the finer things,
What is your first favorite Jim Carrey movie? PLEASE say Dumb and Dumber...

Ananda: South Park is extra funny, because a lot of the time they use movie quotes themselves with their own special twist.
That rug really tied the room together...
You're right, Ananda...this IS fun.

Nope, my favorite is Truman Show. Beautiful movie...

MrManuel: That movie plot seems less and less unlikely as years pass and reality tv grows!

Love the post. I've never seen the Cable Guy, but I know that line, because my friend K. quotes it all the time.

Three of us in the family are Seinfeld fans. Once when my brother was visiting, I asked him if he wanted something to drink. He asked, "Do you have a mocha decaf cappuccino?" to which I replied, "This is an office." Got us giggling. Then last year while trying to wrangle the cat to take home with me while he and his family stayed at my mom's place, I was lying down on the floor trying to coax the cat from under the bed. My brother walked in, snickered and said, "And you wanna be my latex salesman."

My mom and I always say, "The heat my god the heat!" and "You stole my Jesus fish, didn't ya?"

Gets us laughing every dang time.
