I suppose I'll keep my past memories, I have a feeling that once dementia sets in, that's what I'll have left anyway.Churlitahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05018288474865559384noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11494946.post-7320363081495946552012-07-02T17:28:36.898-07:002012-07-02T17:28:36.898-07:00Jasen: Very thoughtfully constructed defense! I think about the people that I have lost and that, if I choose to lose my past memories, I would lose all memory of them. People such as my grandparents and my uncle. If I cannot form new memories and I know that I can't, I will have to enjoy every moment of my life knowing that I won't be able to look back on it. Family trumps all. BE UNABLE TO FORM NEW MEMORIES is my answer.

(Okay, next week better be a light-hearted C&D)AlienCGhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11159520066590679972noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11494946.post-79567583461853578912012-06-29T15:12:37.537-07:002012-06-29T15:12:37.537-07:00James: That is nice take on the question. One for Unable to Form New Memories.

Silver: Yes, you are quite young, so I can see this viewpoint as well! One for Lose Past Memories.

Silly: I'm glad this was a thinker :) I like the idea of having people to fill in the past...good idea. Two for Lose Past Memories.

Tara: Looking toward the future seems sound to me :) Three for Lose Past Memories.

FW: You are a wise and pragmatic fellow. What you say makes a great deal of sense. Four for Lose Past Memories.

Everyone: I really appreciated your comments here...there was nearly a consensus yet the decision seemed arrived at in different ways. So interesting! So far, it is 4-1, with most of you choosing to Lose Old Memories. Anyone else who would like to join this discussion is welcome!laura b.https://www.blogger.com/profile/15086009761943858915noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11494946.post-82980964422564791912012-06-28T12:11:13.324-07:002012-06-28T12:11:13.324-07:00It's not so tough a choice, I'd lose my pa...It's not so tough a choice, I'd lose my past memories. With no ability to form memories you wouldn't have much of a life. How could you hold a job or a relationship down? Those old memories will just have to go, not all of them are worth keeping anyway.FWhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02117308901968785109noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11494946.post-40100000803711906502012-06-27T17:31:09.647-07:002012-06-27T17:31:09.647-07:00I would hate to lose all of my past memories...wel...I would hate to lose all of my past memories...well not all; I wouldn't mind losing the bad memories. However, I like forming new memories because life goes on, right? We must look to the future if we want to remember the past...or something.

I guess my reluctant choice is "lose all of my past memories".Tarahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16103812856035857566noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11494946.post-64721148011090631382012-06-27T13:42:30.604-07:002012-06-27T13:42:30.604-07:00Yikes! But on the other hand, I have the man now and we are making new memories that I want to remember.

I suppose that I will have to choose to lose all my past memories. I can't imagine a world where I do not get to watch my grand kids grow up. At least then I can have my kids tell me all the happy high lights of their lives with me. And I get to lose the bad things that happened. I also have journals and things I have written to read about the past... which fades a bit anyway.silly rabbithttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01313221194740196751noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11494946.post-46480685505955489162012-06-27T12:44:56.662-07:002012-06-27T12:44:56.662-07:00Um, that is HARD...but I guess I would have to go ...Um, that is HARD...but I guess I would have to go with the last one...only because I can't think of living without having anything good to look forward to. At my age, ideally I have more time to make new memories then past memories I already have stored up.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11494946.post-3408484743720938662012-06-27T12:25:10.848-07:002012-06-27T12:25:10.848-07:00Great googly moogly, Laura B. That's a tough ...Great googly moogly, Laura B. That's a tough one. I think I'd go for "keep my old ones." If nothing else that one inoculates me against ever having to remember anything horrible happening to my children, and that's something I can't even contemplate. I get to remember them young and happy forever? Yes, please.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
